Faculty of International Studies and TechnologyCandidates for admission to the Faculty of International Studies and
Technology may be new entrants to the field who would like to apply
their current professional or technical skills abroad or may be
candidates with some previous international professional or technical
experience who would like to upgrade their qualifications, or seek
different or better positions abroad. Candidates may also be EFL / ESL
teachers, with international experience, who wish to expand the their
scope of international opportunities beyond teaching the English
language, to obtain an international career in their chosen field..
Candidates who aspire to be new entrants to the field may vary in age, education, and experience- ranging from young new graduates to mature early retirees who have many years of experience. Candidates will may also vary greatly training, professional experience and life-experience. Mature candidates will be pleased to find that their life-experience and vitality, as well as their professional experience and training are seen as valuable assets. Younger candidates too, bring their unique talents, interests, and energy to the field. Programs and Certification:International Professional Educator Admission Requirements:Due to the anticipated high demand for these programs, priority will be given to students and graduates of International TESOL College (I.T.C.) in the first 3 months of the programs, April 1 to June 30, 2005. Candidates who are not I.T.C. students or graduates are also invited to apply, recognizing that their acceptance may be deferred for a short period of time to accommodate I.T.C. applicants.Minimum Qualifications Educators Program DescriptionTime Required to Complete ProgramsIn some cases, qualifications and experience may be accepted for credit when applied to specific parts of the program. Programs may be completed in as little as 6 months, or may be achieved over a period of 2 years. Because much of the course material can be completed at the students pace by distance learning, individual progress will vary. Additionally, some program participants may elect to complete a limited number of extra credits, above program requirements to achieve personal objectives. Common Thread CoursesAll programs within the Faculty of International Studies and Technology share a Common Thread. The knowledge and skills and gained though these studies have been identified as the generic skills most needed to work in an international professional environment. Internationally, management and colleagues have also identified these areas as critical for effective performance. Ironically, these areas are also seen to be those most notably lacking in candidates for international positions.Common Thread Courses International Professional Educator International Professional Executive International Professional Technician Common Thread Courses
Prerequisite Successful completion of all required Common Thread credits is required prior to undertaking the Discipline-specific Specialized Essay. The essay will be between twenty-five and thirty double spaced type written pages. Students must choose one writing style and ensure that citations and references are consistent. Recommended style manuals include: The Chicago Manual of Styles; and A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses and Dissertations by Kate L. Turabian. The essay must be submitted in proper academic form with bibliography. All sources must be properly cited. 1) THE TITLE PAGE of the Specialized Essay must include; the title of the research study, the authors name, the name of the Faculty and the College; and the date of completion. 2) AN ABSTRACT of 50-75 words must follow the title page. The abstract summarizes the contents of the Specialized Essay; identifies the areas of research, and*Mandatory discusses the principal findings and the conclusions. 3) ACKNOWLEDGEMENT may be made by the student, recognizing person(s) who assisted in some way to bring the work to completion. 4) A TABLE OF CONTENTS is necessary in this formal document. The Essay should be arranged by: CHAPTERS and SUB-HEADINGS MUST BE USED. Specialized Essay Every discipline or domain has specific knowledge and skill. The application of that knowledge and skill will vary depending on local conditions. (*Discipline / domain- e.g. Waste Management, Laboratory Technician, Architectural Engineer, Drafting Technician, Construction Engineer, Construction Management, Electronics Engineer, Electronics Technician, etc.)Please select two countries of interest to for your research, excluding your country of origin / education. Ideally, the characteristics of the two counties should differ. (*Characteristics: e.g. geographical location, relative wealth, etc). Example- what is it like to work as a professional laboratory technician in the following two countries? 1- Sri Lanka 2- Saudi ArabiaCompare and contrast working in each of the two countries, applying your specialized knowledge and skills, with working in your country of origin / education. In your research, determine how the real-life application of your knowledge and skill will be affected by important variables, such as the following: Climate Language Culture including local customs and values, and the role of gender. The availability of material resources The availability of human resources Access to professional knowledge and expertise (professional support) Expected outcomes -productivity, quality, positive change, etc.Discuss the leadership skills and strengths that you believe would be important instruments to employ around key issues. Graduation RequirementsIn addition to satisfying the requirements of the Faculty of International Studies and Technology Program, Candidates for graduation must satisfy the Academic Regulations of International TESOL College.Each candidate for graduation must prepare and submit his / her International Resume, complete with a sample Letter of Introduction, and recent photograph. Additionally, each candidate must prepare and submit a personalized plan for securing an employment or service position. Guidelines will be provided upon completion sufficient credits for graduation. FeesAdmission Application Fee ($US)$300.00 (non-refundable, but applicable to tuition fees) The Office of the Registrar will review the applicants documentation and relevant information to determine eligibility for admission to the program, and in some cases, determine advanced standing in the program. The Awards Office at International TESOL College is responsible for providing money, encouragement, and advice to students in need. Under certain circumstances, it may be possible to finance part of your program. Contact the Awards Office for further information Bursaries International TESOL College offers bursaries to students who have applied for a admission and who require additional assistance in order to finance their studies. If you are applying for a bursary be prepared to present a budget estimating your expenses and sources of funds, including your personal savings, family support and government assistance. ScholarshipsEntrance Scholarships - AcademicEligibility criteria: The applicant must have been in full-time attendance at an accredited academic institution within the past two years. The applicant must have successfully completed his/her academic program with a minimum average of 80%. Documentation is required. Contact the Awards Office for further information . Entrance Scholarships - Meritorious Service Eligibility criteria: The applicant will have performed outstanding service within his / her discipline, or performed outstanding humanitarian service internationally within the past two years. Documentation is required. Contact the Awards Office for further information. Scholarships for ITC Graduates If you are a past graduate of any program offered by International TESOL College Contact the Awards Office for further information. Payment PoliciesPayment Due:All fees must be paid in full prior to commencing the program. Please contact the Awards Office for financial assistance, including financing options, bursaries and scholarships. Commencement of Program The program is deemed to have commenced when all fees have been received (see Payment Policy). Refund Policy The Admission Application Fee is non-refundable. A student withdraws from the program, for any reason, within seven calendar days of commencing the program, 80% of the Tuition fee, is refundable. Following seven calendar days, application for withdrawal from the program can only be made with just cause. ITC will be the sole judge of what constitutes just cause. Just cause will be determined only as a result of circumstances completely beyond the control of the student. For example, grave incapacitating accident or illness, death of next-of-kin, natural disaster, etc. No application for withdrawal will be accepted later than 60 calendar days of commencing the program. However, the time required to complete the program may be extended on compassionate grounds. |
